Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Nairobi to Maasai Mara National Reserve
Your Olifant Safaris adventure begins with a pick-up from your hotel, residence, or the airport in Nairobi by our professional safari representative. After a short safari briefing, depart Nairobi and travel south towards the world-famous Maasai Mara National Reserve. The journey takes you through the beautiful landscapes of the Great Rift Valley, offering breathtaking views of escarpments, valleys, and the scenic Kenyan countryside. Continue through the Kedong and Suswa plains before making a stop in the Maasai town of Narok for a short break. Proceed to the Maasai Mara, arriving in time for lunch at your accomodation. After some relaxation, begin your first afternoon game drive at approximately 4:00 PM. Explore the vast golden savannah in search of Africa’s most iconic wildlife, including lions, elephants, leopards, buffaloes, and rhinos, famously known as the Big Five. You will also have opportunities to spot zebras, giraffes, wildebeest, gazelles, and many bird species. As the African sun sets over the Mara plains, enjoy the spectacular scenery before returning to your accommodation for dinner and overnight stay. Day 2: Full Day Maasai Mara Wildlife Exploration
After breakfast, prepare for a full day of adventure exploring the incredible Maasai Mara ecosystem. You will depart with a packed picnic lunch and spend the day exploring different sections of the reserve in search of wildlife. The Maasai Mara is famous for its exceptional wildlife population and is one of the best places in Africa to experience predator sightings and natural wildlife interactions. During your game drive, you may encounter large herds of elephants, buffaloes, zebras, giraffes, impalas, wildebeest, and gazelles roaming across the open plains. The reserve is also home to some of Africa’s most famous predators including lions, cheetahs, and leopards. Your driver guide will help you discover the hidden treasures of the Mara while sharing fascinating insights about the wildlife and ecosystem. During the Great Migration season (usually July to October), you may witness thousands of wildebeest and zebras crossing from Tanzania’s Serengeti into Kenya’s Maasai Mara in search of fresh grazing land, a breathtaking natural event recognized as one of the world’s greatest wildlife spectacles. Enjoy your picnic lunch surrounded by the beauty of the African wilderness before continuing with more game viewing in the afternoon. Day 3: Maasai Mara Safari Experience & Cultural Adventure
Wake up to another beautiful morning in the African wilderness and enjoy breakfast before heading out for more exploration of the Maasai Mara. Depending on wildlife movements, weather conditions, and your preferences, today can include a morning game drive, afternoon game drive, or a full-day wildlife adventure. The Mara offers incredible opportunities to witness wildlife in their natural environment. Explore the open grasslands where predators hunt, herds move freely, and every drive offers a new discovery. You may visit different areas of the reserve in search of lions resting under acacia trees, cheetahs hunting across the plains, elephants moving through the wilderness, and giraffes feeding among the trees. For guests interested in culture, Olifant Safaris can arrange an optional visit to a traditional Maasai village where you will learn about Maasai traditions, lifestyle, dances, and their unique connection with nature. Day 4: Maasai Mara to Nairobi
On your last day you will have breakfast before checking out and beginning your journey back to Nairobi, here you can have a game drive enroute. The drive takes you through the scenic Loita Plains and the Great Rift Valley, giving you another chance to enjoy Kenya’s beautiful landscapes.
